Over 25 years ago the AOCR had a dream - an Education Foundation. That dream has become a reality. Through the Foundation, numerous projects are sponsored which enhance public awareness of health care issues, support continuing medical education for practicing radiologists and provide additional educational resources for radiology residents.
Resident Grants to Attend the Annual Convention
Each year, the Education Foundation provides multiple $1,500 grants to residents to assist and encourage their attendance at the AOCR Annual Convention. These grants were initiated to provide additional financial support to residents who would be unable to attend otherwise.
Grant to Assist the Journal of the AOCR
This annual grant is used to assist in the publishing company expenses to manage the JAOCR. The Journal is designed to provide practical up-to-date reviews of critical topics in radiology for practicing physicians and radiology trainees. Each quarterly issue covers a particular radiology subspecialty and is composed of high quality review articles and case reports that highlight differential diagnoses and important teaching points. This funding assists in providing access to CME free of charge for AOCR members through the articles provided.
Outstanding Resident of the Year in Radiology
Starting in 2017, the American Osteopathic Foundation (AOF) and AOCR have co-sponsored the Outstanding Resident of the Year in Radiology Award. This award recognizes and honors osteopathic residents whose combination of clinical promise, leadership, dedication and commitment to osteopathic patient-centered care, separate them from others. To further honor the recipient, the Education Foundation fully supports the recipient's travel to the AOCR Annual Convention.
The Foundation continues to support the online learning management system and assist with monthly live webinars as well as on-demand educational offerings available to both residents in training and practicing physicians.
Grants Supporting the Annual and Mid-Year CME Conferences
The Foundation provides grants for both the Annual Convention in the spring and Mid-Year Conference in the fall. These grants are used to reimburse faculty for honorarium, per diem, and travel expenses.
Educational videos have been sponsored by the Foundation, stressing the advantages of routine mammography and the importance of early detection of colorectal cancer. These tapes, "A Gift of Life" and "Coping with Colorectal Cancer and the Importance of Early Detection," include testimonials from numerous cancer survivors. These videos have been shown during countless public awareness presentations and conventions, as well as appearing on the Public Broadcast System. Copies of the educational videos may be ordered from the American Osteopathic College of Radiology Education Foundation.
